Stefan Jackiw play at last September's Prelude, a Harriman-Jewell Series benefit.

Stefan Jackiw

leadmarker American violinist Stefan Jackiw will return to the Harriman-Jewell Series at 8 p.m., Saturday, September 26 at the Folly Theater in downtown Kansas City (12th and Central Sts). His music selections for the evening include Beethoven's Sonata No. 1 in D major; Copland's Sonata for Violin and Piano; Lutoslawski's Subito; and Brahm's Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108.

The 24-year-old violinist is recognized as one of the most significant artists of his generation, capturing audiences with his poetry and purity, combined with an impeccable technique. He has been hailed by numerous critics and has received the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts and the Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Jackiw has quickly become a favorite artist of Kansas Citians: He will make his third public appearance on the Series within four years. Pianist Max Levinson will play on the Series for a second time with Jackiw. Of the 2007 recital, Kansas City Star critic Paul Horsley wrote “You'd have to go back several generations to find a violinist to compare to Stefan Jackiw, because there's almost no one today who is in his league…. But Jackiw doesn't play for shtick or glamour. He's the real deal.” In addition to the public Kansas City performances, Jackiw most recently played a more intimate concert last September for Prelude, a Harriman-Jewell Series benefit.
